Promoted Work: The Citizen's Band - Grab A Root and Growl

The Citizen's Band

When I started this, I never thought it would be a vehicle to promote a project like The Citizen's Band, a politically charged cabaret troupe. But here I am; happy to do it.

I think very little of politics beyond the idea that politicians need to get the fuck out of the way and let people live their lives. That's how I believe it should work but we all know that that's not how it works at all. Politics has become a racket of influence peddling and naked avarice; it also has a penchant for dictating our private affairs. I grew up in a authoritarian country and it made me deeply skeptical of their "authority"; I will always support any creative force that pushes against top down politics.

The Citizen's Band's album Grab A Root And Growl is bawdy and theatrical but it takes on the very serious ideas of equality and accountability. I'm not an American but these are universal ideals.

Music criticism is not my thing so I'm not going to give a traditional review of the album (you can listen to the full album here). I liked it.The stand out for me is Zoe Kravitz singing You Can't Make It By Yourself. The Citizen's Band looks like something amazing to watch live and if you have the chance, go and see them (details on their site). Buy their album and support them; their profits go to a really good cause.

Exercise your democracy (wherever you may be).
