Advertising is fucking bullshit. I'm now putting advertising on my site. Wait… what?

My belief that advertising is the scourge of the earth is probably not quite as extreme as those of Bill Hicks - but it's pretty close. Advertising is fucking bullshit. The ends of advertisers are almost always at odds with the creative arts - they want eyeballs at any cost and always sway in favour of the lowest common denominator.

To be fair, some campaigns are beautiful and some ads are actually relevant to their audience but these are the exceptions that prove the rule. Most ads are stupid and irrelevant - they cheapen the work that they surround.

So why am I putting ads on my site? The simply answer is that I think they can be really beneficial and relevant if they are given (yes given, not sold) to the people who most deserve the space - young creatives who need to get themselves out there.

From today I'm starting "Promoted Work" in my side bar - please support these artists - the links will go directly to their sites and The Quiet Front will receive no payment or commission from any potential work they get.

If you are a creative or run a small, independent publication - feel free to contact me after you've read "Promote Your Work". It's not a free-for-all - your work needs to be good and it does need to fit my site (not necessarily a perfect match - but it can't look out of place).
